Literature Appreciation II – Shakespeare’s Sonnets
September 24 @ 4:00 pm - September 26 @ 3:00 pm£170
Tutor: Hugh Parry
The Shakespeare Sonnets remain one of the peaks of poetic achievement. Within their apparently identical and restrictive packaging, they are elegant, witty, raw, ruminative, rousing – sometimes all at once. What do they have to say, and how do they get their effects? Sonnets by other writers will be included for comparison, and we will also look at Shakespeare’s other non-dramatic verse.
Hugh Parry has offered adult education classes in literature for over 25 years. Although loyal all his life to Shakespeare, he has over the years given courses on a diverse range of topics, including detective fiction, Utopias, ghost stories , Cowper, Swift and R S Thomas.
Please note: Unfortunately it is not possible for us to offer the option of staying an additional night for the musical event on Thursday 27th September following this Literature Appreciation course.
